Alabama Symphony Orchestra

Dr. Panion's 25 plus year affiliation with the Alabama Symphony Orchestra has resulted in a significant body of work, both as conductor and composer. First commissioned in 1992 to compose an orchestral fantasy on the "Ride on King Jesus" motif, Dr. Panion has lead the orchestra in classical masterworks concerts throughout the years, highlighted by performances that include Beethoven's Symphony No. 6; Mozart's Requiem with the 300-voice Alabama Symphony Chorus; Scott Joplin's opera Treemonisha; Mozart's Piano Concerto No. 20 with acclaimed pianist Haesun Paik; Joseph Bologne, Chevalier de Saint-Georges' Symphony No. 2;  and Adolphus Hailstork's monumental choral works Done Made My Vow and I Will Lift Up Mine Eyes. The Alabama Symphony's commission of the symphonic and choral work Here We Are in 2013 was received with critical acclaim and has received significant programing since  it's premiere.
